WW2/Spanish (without audio) – 5 lessons whole bundle

This is designed for years 3/4, but can be used any Key stage 2 class studying Spanish and WW2. It is designed to be taught alongside your history lessons and to make your Spanish lessons purposeful. The unit is also available without audio and in French.

Lesson 1 – Looking at WW2 vocabulary 

In this lesson we look at WW2 specific vocabulary in Spanish, the children explore the vocabulary in Spanish and English and make a poster of the terms. Lesson contains a PowerPoint with audio, word list and lesson plan

Curriculum objective MFL explore the patterns and sounds of language through songs and rhymes and link the  spelling, sound and meaning of words

Lesson 2-Countries involved in WW2 (without audio) 

In this lesson children explore the names of the countries involved in WW2 in Spanish. They look at the words and compare them to English country names. They have the option to play a match up game on the internet or using the  resource sheet provided.

Lesson contains PowerPoint (which includes resource sheet) and lesson plan.

Curriculum objective MFL develop accurate pronunciation and intonation so that others understand when they are reading aloud or using familiar words and phrases

Lesson 3- Evacuee Feelings (without audio

In this lesson children explore feeling words in Spanish and empathise with Evacuees. We look at a simple text in which an evacuee describes their feelings and children are asked to complete a differentiated comprehension activity.

Lesson contains PowerPoint, starter activity, comprehension activity and evacuation tags to fill in.

Lesson 4-Evacuee suitcase contents (without audio)

In this lesson children explore the contents of an evacuee’s suitcase and learn the names for those items in Spanish. They play a game of ‘What’s in the case?’

Lesson contains PowerPoint, lesson plan and 2 activity sheets for the game.

Lesson 5- Food Rationing (without audio) 

In this lesson children look at food rationed and the names of some of these foods in Spanish. They make a ration book.
